Grandma's Chocolate Cake

This was my grandma's recipe for homemade chocolate cake and it turns out delicious every single time. This one is reason to never buy a boxed cake mix again.

1/2 cup melted shortening OR oil
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup cocoa
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup boiling water

• in a large bowl, combine oil, sugar, eggs, vanilla, milk, and baking soda.
  
• In medium mixing bowl, combine cocoa, flour and salt.
• Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and beat well.
  
• Add boiling water to batter and beat until smooth.
  
• Pour batter into 2 greased and floured 9" layer baking pans or 1, 9 x 13 pan. Bake at 350'F for 25-30 minutes. Cupcakes also work at about 20 minutes.
